Olympia 2018: No experiments: DEB coach Sturm relies on tried and tested technology for Olympic Games

At the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang/South Korea, Marco Sturm relies on established forces and does not dare to experiment. The former NHL pro nominated an initially 30-strong squad with the experienced players Christian Ehrhoff, Marcel Goc and Patrick Reimer.

Until 23. On 1 January, Storm (39) will have to cancel five players from the squad.

“It is important that most of them have already played together and know our system. In contrast to a World Cup, this time we only have three group games, so the automatisms have to take hold in the first game,”said Sturm,” Ehrhoff has the greatest Olympic experience (4. Participation) and Goc (3. Participation), all other players debut. The DEB team meets Finland in Pyeongchang (15. February), World Champion Sweden (16. February) and Norway (18. February).

Their dress rehearsal before the Winter Games, which will take place without the stars from the NHL, will be completed by the DEB selection on 6th September. February in Kloten against Switzerland. Not surprisingly enough, the coach of the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) decided to give up the Krefeld striker Marcel Müller, who is one of the top scorers in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In the goal, the two form-strong Nuremberg-based Andreas Jenike and Niklas Treutle were not taken into account.
