After heavy falls in recent years on the legendary Streif, Aksel Lund Svindal (Norway) and Hannes Reichelt (Austria) have taken the organisers into their duties.
These are supposed to put the safety of the drivers to the fore at the notorious downhill run in Kitzbühel on Saturday (from 11.30 am in the LIVETICKER).
“It must not become as dangerous again as it was two years ago,”Reichelt, who had fallen heavily in Kitzbühel in 2016 when visibility was poor, told the “Kronen Zeitung”:”Kitzbühel has such importance for our sport. So many people are watching. “Nevertheless, one must learn from the mistakes of 2016, must not whip through a race on bending and breaking.”
Svindal, who in 2016 suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee on the stripe, also recalled the immense dangers of the slope:”Kitzbühel is the Monte Carlo of skiing. The Formula 1 drivers peck at the slightest fault in the concrete wall, there is no crumple zone. And also for us in Kitz: mistakes are absolutely forbidden!”
