Ice hockey: DEL: Cologne sharks defeat Schwenninger Wild Wings and hope for playoffs

The Cologne sharks collected three important points in the race for play-off places in the DEL. The eight-time champion took the 43rd place. In the second matchday against the Schwenninger Wild Wings with 2:1 (2:0,0:1,0:0:0) and is fifth in the standings with 64 points.

The Schwenninger team with equal points are sixth and thus occupy the last place for direct play-off qualification. Red Bull Munich (89), the Nuremberg Ice Tigers (82) and the Eisbären Berlin (82) are competing for the main round championship. The teams in seventh to tenth place will play two more participants in the eight teams’ play-offs.

In front of 11,560 spectators Shawn Lalonde (Cologne) and Dominik Bohac (Schwenningen) got together in the first minute and after a fight each received a disciplinary penalty. Kai Hospelt (3rd) and Ryan Jones (19th) put coach Peter Draisaitl’s side in the lead and Stefano Giliati’s (28th) goal was no longer enough for the Wild Wings.
