NFL: Media: Salary cap rises to over $180 million

In the upcoming Free Agency, the teams will once again obviously not have to be stingy about the offers: According to reports, the salary cap will rise to more than 180 million dollars.

Mike Florio from NBC and Pro Football Talk reported. Reports had already been circulating in December that the cap would crack the 178 million – if Florio’s information is correct, the actual sum would be even higher.

In this case it would be the biggest leap in the salary cap era – a 13 million jump has never been seen before. The biggest difference at present is that between 2016 and 2017, when the cap climbed from 155.27 to 167 million dollars.

At the same time, it reflects the league’s tremendous growth in recent years. The cap stagnated for years before 2013, with slight upward and downward swings. A detailed explanation of the salary cap system can be found here.
