Ski jumping: Lundby also wins in Zao – DSV-Team disappointed

High-flyer Maren Lundby celebrated her fifth victory in the seventh ski jumping event of the Olympic winter. The Norwegian won the World Cup in Zao with a huge lead over Chiara Hölzl (Austria) and the Russian Irina Awwakumowa and extended her lead in the overall standings to Katharina Althaus.

The two-time season’s winner from Oberstdorf, as well as world champion Carina Vogt, was not at the start.

The German team was disappointed in the fight for the two remaining places for the winter games in Pyeongchang (9th place). till 25. February) complete. Best of the six DSV starters was Ramona Straub on the 19th place. Rank, Anna Rupprecht followed in 22nd place.

While Olympic champion Vogt and Althaus have already met the internal standard (two top eight places), two places in the DSV team are still open for South Korea. On Friday, Gianina Ernst and Luisa Görlich also did not exceed ranks 24 and 25. Juliane Seyfarth missed the second round, former vice world champion Ulrike Gräßler failed in the qualification.

Straub, Ernst and Seyfarth have at least met half the norm so far. On Saturday (team) and Sunday (single) the last two jumps are scheduled on the Zao-Schanze before the announcement of the Olympic squad.

Lundby, who flew on 101.5 and 100.0 m and won with 260.9 points clearly ahead of Hölzl (219.3) and Awwakumowa (216.8), once again underlined her role as the favourite. The former serial winner Sara Takanashi from Japan (216.0) came fourth and is still waiting for her first win of the season. In the overall World Cup Lundby, whose worst result of the winter season is a second place, leads with 660 points ahead of Althaus (500).
