Biathlon: Michael Rösch receives permission to compete in the Olympics

The German biathlete Michael Rösch is on the verge of an Olympic start for Belgium and thus fulfilling his big dream. On Instagram, the 34-year-old from Pirna, who won the 2006 Olympic gold medal with the German relay and has been competing for Belgium since 2014, published the official confirmation of his nation’s two places on the grid.

“It’s been 12 years. I only make three crosses when I am sitting in the plane and at the start”, said Rösch:”I have shown what can be achieved with willpower. I’m proud of myself and everyone who supported me.”

Apart from Rösch, who is currently only 69th on the list due to various health problems. Florent Claude (44th) is expected to take second place in the overall World Cup.

“Great news for the Belgian biathlon sport”, Rösch wrote under the picture:”Now we are officially nominated for the Winter Games. We will proudly represent Belgium.”
