Golf: Abu Dhabi: former winner Kaymer loses sight of top spot

Three-time tournament winner Martin Kaymer has lost track of the lead in the third round of the Abu Dhabi Championship. Germany’s best professional golfer played his weakest tournament round so far on Saturday with a 71 on the par-72 course and dropped to 21st place with 208 strokes. Stand back.

The two-time Major-Champion Kaymer was nine shots behind Thomas Pieters from Belgium and Ross Fisher from England (both 199).

Even from the top 10, the Rhinelander is already five strokes away. Kaymer won the $3 million event in 2008,2010 and 2011. Maximilian Kieffer (Düsseldorf) and Marcel Siem (Ratingen) missed the cut after two runs.

For former world number one Kaymer, a strong final round on the Arabian Gulf would be important in order to put himself in a good position for his targeted fifth consecutive Ryder Cup participation.

The traditional continental comparison between the twelve best golfers in Europe and defending champions USA takes place from 28. till 30. The event took place in the club Le Golf National on September 30th at the gates of Paris.
