Handball: Doping: Russia threatens to deprive U19 women’s handball championship titles

Because three players were doped at the same time, Russia threatens to revoke the U19 handball championship title.

The European Handball Federation EHF announced that the players Antonina Skorobogatschenko, Maria Duwakina and Maria Dudina were caught at the tournament in Slovenia last July with the cardiac drug Meldonium, which had been banned since the beginning of 2016. The three players were suspended for 20 months retroactively from September 2017.

Since the EHF rules provide for a team penalty to be imposed if more than two members of a team are convicted of doping, the silver medal is likely to be withdrawn. According to the EHF, a decision on this should be made in “the coming months”. Russia had lost to France in the final.
