Further reinforcement for the German handball team: National coach Christian Prokop has nominated Rune Dahmke for the further matches of the European Handball Championship in Croatia.
The left wing of THW Kiel replaces Maximilian Janke (SC DHfK Leipzig) and is already used in the second main round game against Olympic champion Denmark on Sunday (from 18.15 in the LIVETICKER). Dahmke, with whom the DHB selection sensationally won the European Championship title two years ago in Poland, was initially not taken into account by Prokop.
“Rune will exonerate Uwe Gensheimer. I would like to have a strong duo on the left-hand side,”said Prokop at a press conference in the German team hotel in Sveti Martin:”Rune is an incredibly positive and likeable player who brings a lot of energy to the team. He comes with a lot of self-confidence. This is very important for Sunday.”
Dahmke has played 32 international matches to date, scoring 64 goals. He is expected to arrive in the German camp on Saturday. Dahmke is the second successor after defensive chief Finn Lemke, who was nominated on Tuesday. In the main round, Prokop has another possibility to change. After the games against the Czech Republic (22:19) and Denmark, ex-world champion Spain is the third main opponent of the German team on Wednesday (from 20:30 in the LIVETICKER).
