Martin Kaymer won the Abu Dhabi Championship 27th place. finished. On the last lap, Kaymer played a 71 on the par-72 course just like the day before and ended up 13 strokes behind the English winner Tommy Fleetwood (266). Kaymer (279) started with a 69 and a 68.
Fleetwood won the $3 million event ahead of fellow countrymen Ross Fisher (268) and Matthew Fitzpatrick and former world number one Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland/both 270). The two-time Major-Champion Kaymer had won the tournament in 2008,2010 and 2011. Maximilian Kieffer (Düsseldorf) and Marcel Siem (Ratingen) failed the cut after two laps.
For Kaymer, former world number one, a strong final round on the Arabian Gulf would have been important in order to position himself for his targeted fifth consecutive Ryder Cup participation.
