Austria’s squad for the Olympic Winter Games from 9. till 25. February in Pyeongchang (South Korea) will be 105 athletes, 40 of them women and 65 men. In addition, there are 181 supervisors and two substitutes in the bobsleigh. Flag bearer at the opening ceremony on 9. February is alpine skier Anna Veith, who won the gold medal in the Super-G four years ago in Sochi.
Not all athletes are known by name, this concerns six alpine ski racers (5 women/1 gentleman) and one Nordic combined. The World Cup races are still awaited this week, but the international entry deadline is next Sunday. This was announced by the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) at a press conference in Vienna on Monday.
Austria will be represented in biathlon, bobsleigh, figure skating, speed skating, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined skiing, tobogganing, skeleton, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski freestyle, ski jumping and snowboarding.
The athletes will be taking off their Olympic clothing in Vienna over the next two days, on Wednesday the Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen will be saying farewell at the Hofburg in Vienna’s Hofburg, and the “Lotterien Farewell celebration” will take place in the “Aula der Wissenschaften” in the evening.
