Snowboard: Hope for additional Olympic slots

The German snowboarders hope for three additional starting places at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February).

In addition to the eleven qualified athletes, the Olympic runners-up of 2014 Anke Wöhrer (formerly Karstens) and Alexander Bergmann (both parallel giant slalom) and Nadja Flemming (slopestyle/big air) could slip through the back door into the German squad.

Wöhrer and Bergmann have only met half of the national standard, but the association Snowboard Germany will propose to the DOSB at the final nomination meeting on Tuesday. This was confirmed by sports director Stefan Knirsch on Monday at the edge of the Olympic clothing in Munich.

Flemming had met the standard, one of the 30 international quota places as 32nd place. of the ranking list. She took part in the clothing at the Postpalast because the association hopes that she will be able to move up if other nations do not all take their places. The deadline for this is 24. January, 24.00 o’ clock starting.

Snowboard Germany had set 17 Olympic riders as its goal:”We can’t be 100% satisfied in quantitative terms, but the quality speaks a different language,”said Knirsch, who, as in Sochi, hopes for two medals:”We want to keep it, not correct it downwards,”he said.

The two-time season’s winner Ramona Hofmeister, who will start in parallel giant slalom with Selina Jörg and Carolin Langenhorst, is the biggest hope for a medal. Patrick Bussler and Stefan Baumeister qualified for the men’s competition. Paul Berg, Martin Nörl and Konstantin Schad as well as Jana Fischer are in the snowboardcross, Silvia Mittermüller and Johannes Höpfl in the freestyle.
