Olympia: Stoss: Graz and Schladming apply for the Olympics

After Innsbruck’s “No” vote, Austria could still apply for the Olympic Games in 2026. As IOC President Karl Stoss reveals, Graz and Schladming will endeavour to host the Games.

The two cities are to make their applications official during the night slalom in Schladming, Stoss is quoted in the press. The application period runs until the end of March. Governor Hermann Schützenhofer is pleased with the idea, the federal government is also on board, sees the push “good chances”.

Apparently, a vocabulary survey like in Innsbruck is not wanted, but rather a “non-binding offer”. The competition for the 2026 Winter Games is certainly not without competition. Sion, Stockholm, Calgary and Salt Lake City are already in the race.
