Olympia 2018: Despite quarrels: Japan’s Prime Minister wants to visit Olympia

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, despite continuing controversy with South Korea, has continued his visit to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (9th place) with a view to the opening of the Olympic Games. till 25. I would like to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang to cheer on Japanese athletes,”Abe told the conservative newspaper Sankei Shimbun.

Abe had hinted beforehand, referring to the adoption of the state budget, that he would refrain from visiting. A conflict has been brewing for decades between Japan, whose capital Tokyo is hosting the next Summer Games in 2020, and South Korea.

During the Second World War, it was estimated that between 100,000 and 300,000 Korean girls and women were forced into forced prostitution by the Japanese occupying forces. Since then, Japan has repeatedly publicly apologized and made compensation payments.

However, the new leadership in Seoul under President Moon Jae In has initiated the examination of a 2015 agreement with which both states actually wanted to settle the dispute. Abe announced that he wanted to talk to Moon on the fringes of the games.
