Cycling: First race, first victory: Degenkolb wins on Mallorca

The German professional cyclist John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) has won his first race on Mallorca in 2018 and has already won as many stage victories as in the whole of last season. The 29-year-old from Gera won the first of four one-day races on Thursday after 178 kilometres in Ses Salines, which are grouped together as the Mallorca Challenge.

In the sprint, Degenkolb won against the Norwegian Sondre Holst Enger (Israel Cycling Academy) and the Belgian Jasper De Buyst (Lotto Soudal).

“It’s a great feeling to celebrate our first victory, also for the team,”said Degenkolb:”We had a great week of training on Mallorca. Starting the season with a win is always great.”
