Ice hockey: Augsburg’s race to catch up in Schwenningen stopped

The Augsburg Panthers suffered a setback in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) on their hunt for a place in the play-off qualification. After two consecutive wins in a row, the Swabians were beaten 1:3 (0:1,0:1,1,1:1) at the Schwenninger Wild Wings and are now in twelfth place four points behind tenth place in the standings.

Schwenningen, on the other hand, moved up to a play-off place after two defeats in a row, at least temporarily. Former coach Pat Cortina’s team climbed four positions and pushed the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven out of sixth place.

For the hosts, Damien Fleury’s lead goal kicked off the match in just 54 seconds. Stefano Giliati increased to 2-0 three minutes before the end of the third period, before Markus Poukkula (52nd) took the lead in the final section of the game. Augsburg only scored an honorary goal in the final minute with Andrew Leblanc.
