Alpine Skiing: Giant slalom in “GAP”: Hirscher fetches 55.

Marcel Hirscher has impressively demonstrated his exceptional position in the alpine ski circus also in the last World Cup giant slalom before the Olympic Games. The Austrian won his tenth victory of the season in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the 55th overall. in the World Cup.

He left his great compatriot Hermann Maier behind him in the best list and is now the only runner-up behind Ingemar Stenmark (Sweden/86 victories).

Best German at the dress rehearsal for the Olympic Giant Slalom on 18. February in Yongpyong was Fritz Dopfer (Garmisch), who was named 15. his best result in this discipline in almost two years. Linus Straßer (Munich) finished in 20th place with the second best time to run behind Hirscher in the final. for the first time in the “giant” World Cup points, Alexander Schmid (Fischen) occupied 22nd place. The trio will also be present in South Korea.

Hirscher won his fourth victory of the season in giant slalom in the fifth race clearly ahead of his team mate Manuel Feller (1.57 seconds behind). Third place went to former World Champion Ted Ligety (USA/+1.69).

For the men it was the last race in an Olympic discipline before the trip to South Korea. On Tuesday, however, there will be a World Cup competition at the non-Olympic City Event in Stockholm. The first race at Olympia is the departure on the 11th. February in Jeongseon.
