Ski Alpin: Hirscher over his record victory and the expectations of the Olympics

After its historic 55th century. Marcel Hirscher comments on this extraordinary success in his first statements at the World Cup victory in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition, he takes a first look at the Olympic Games, where only gold counts. Even though Hirscher himself is a staple.

Question: What does the 55th birthday mean to you? World Cup victory?

Hirscher:”Of course, that’s legendary. I can’t believe it. If you count from 1 to 55 – that takes quite a long time. If you then have to win the races from 1 to 55, it also takes ten years. It’s said that I haven’t had a big injury in ten years, I’ve had a super team like that around me, and it’s actually all running the way you want it to.”

Question: You said that you made the mistake below because you didn’t visit the last gates. Is that correct?

Hirscher:”I already looked at it during the inspection. But while the Leif Kristian Nestvold Haugen drove with number one, I thought I’d go to the starting house to avoid getting stressed. I almost burned my fingers.” (Hirscher had number three/notice)

Question: What makes this giant slalom so difficult?

Hirscher:”Certainly the terrain, which varies greatly. It’s not continuous, but it has a lot of off-road corrections, it depends on one side, then on the other, then it goes almost uphill. It’s really a very demanding terrain, especially the steep slope and the long flat section, where you can win and lose a lot.”

Question: The “free fall” – is this a passage that has the exact Hirscher cut?

Hirscher:”I don’t know. I’m generally comfortable there. The terrain is very similar to the terrain where I normally train, which makes me feel quite comfortable.”

Question: Many people are already seeing that you will win the overall World Cup for the seventh time this year. But the Olympic gold medal is missing. How do you handle this now?

Hirscher:”Of course I went to the last two Olympic Games to make gold there. You have to be that honest. Everyone who goes to the games wants to make a medal. But I’m not going to go crazy over this if it doesn’t work. It’s not gonna change my career greatly. I’ll give everything, but there must be so much to match. There’s no way you can prepare yourself for it in a great way. One is already very dependent on the circumstances. Personally, you should also have a good day. Well, I’m more relaxed about it.”
