Ronda Rousey has caused a sensation: The UFC fighter has signed a full-time contract with WWE.
Rousey appeared surprisingly on Sunday evening at the WWE Royal Rumble in Philadelphia. After the first women’s RR match of all time had come to an end, the 30-year-old shocked the audience:”This is my life now, the top priority in my planning for the next few years. I don’t just want to take the money with me, it’s not a publicity stunt,”Rousey told ESPN reporter Ramona Shelburne.
“When I first met Triple H, I told him:’ I could use my time differently and make more money, but I wouldn’t enjoy it so much’, the fighter continued.
The signs that Rousey would overflow into wrestling had been intensifying for some time. The UFC star made its first appearance in the WWE environment back in May 2015, when The Rock pulled her from the front row of Levi’s Stadium into the ring.
“It’s funny. It’s a bit like being an actor, something I’ve always wanted to do,”Rousey said to Shelburne:”And now that the chance has come up, I feel like my six-year-old self would kick my ass if I refused.”
Rousey is the youngest case of a star who moves from the world of MMA to wrestling. Brock Lesnar is probably the most famous example of World Titles in UFC and WWE.
Like Lesnar, Rousey may not be appearing on TV every week, but will rather fight isolated matches that are promoted all the more. In this way, the WWE would reinforce its status as a star. Your first appearance at WresteMania should definitely attract a lot of attention.
