DEL:”Disturbing Fire”: DEG suspends international player Brandt

National player Marcel Brandt has been suspended by the Düsseldorf EC for disciplinary reasons,”This move was without alternative,”said coach Tobias Abstreiter. The behaviour of the forward is “incomprehensible and disappointing”.

Sporting director Niki Mondt added with a view to the Rhineland derby on Friday against the Cologne sharks:”For this we have to concentrate all our energies and avoid fires. Managing director Stefan Adam spoke of “damaging behavior”, saying that the team was not fully involved.

As the DEL’s eleventh place in the table, DEG is competing for participation in the pre-playoffs. On Saturday, the eight-time champion separated from coach Mike Pellegrims, whose assistant took over Abstreiter.

Brandt had moved from the Straubing Tigers to Düsseldorf in summer 2015. He played a total of 140 games for DEG with twelve goals and 24 goals.
