The eight-time German champions Düsseldorf EC have cancelled the contract with international Marcel Brandt, which runs until 2019,”by mutual agreement”. This was announced by the club on Wednesday. On Tuesday, DEG had initially suspended the 25-year-old temporarily. Brandt changes for the rest of the season to DEG’s DEL2 cooperation partner, the EC Bad Nauheim.
The club did not give any further information about the exact reasons for the Brandt decision. Düsseldorf’s Sports Director Niki Mondt had only said on Tuesday with a view to the Rhenish derby on Friday (19.30 hrs at the LIVETICKER CONFERENCE) against the Cologne sharks:”For this we have to concentrate all our energies and avoid interfering fires. Managing director Stefan Adam had spoken of “damaging behavior”, but I can’t understand why a player doesn’t participate fully.
The 25-year-old had moved from the Straubing Tigers to Düsseldorf in summer 2015. He played a total of 140 games for DEG (twenty goals, 24 goals). As the DEL’s eleventh place in the table, DEG is struggling to participate in the pre-play-offs.
