NFL: Kansas City Chiefs traded Alex Smith to Washington Redskins

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached an agreement with the Washington Redskins on a trade that sends quarterback Alex Smith to the capital. In return, the skins will receive a third round kick in the upcoming draft and a young cornerback with potential.

The Washington Redskins secure the services of Smith, whose contract in Kansas City would have expired by the end of the 2018 season. In DC, Smith is reportedly receiving a new four-year contract worth $94 million, of which $71 million is guaranteed.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, are now betting on their 2017 first-round pick Patrick Mahomes, who was able to start for the first time in the last game of the 2017 season and was able to convince. In addition to the third round pick, they will also receive Cornerback Kendall Fuller, who the Redskins had drawn in the third round in 2016.

With this trade, which was launched only at the start of the new league year on 14 January, we are pleased to announce that the new league year has just begun. However, the Redskins are also drawing a line under the future of Kirk Cousins in the team. In the past two seasons, the franchise had not agreed on a long-term contract with the QB, so that he had played under the franchise day.

Another year under the franchise day, cousins would have earned about 32 million dollars guaranteed, too much for Washington that probably wanted to save further rounds of negotiations with cousins. Cousins, in turn, will become the most sought-after free agent on the market – Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has already reported great interest from Denver Broncos, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. Furthermore, it can also be assumed that the Cleveland Browns will contact their cousins.
