Handball: Schwarzer criticises lack of team spirit among German handball players

Former world champion Christian Schwarzer sees the lack of team spirit as the main reason for the weak performance of the German national handball team at the European Championship in Croatia.

“I didn’t have the feeling that there was a unit on the pitch,” said the 48-year-old on Saturday evening at the edge of the Sports Ball in Wiesbaden:”I would wish that the entire team, including the coaches and coaches, would be more united in the future.

Schwarzer did not want to take part in the discussion about the troubled national coach Christian Prokop:”I know him too little and can only judge his work from the outside,”said the former international. However, Prokop had made a mistake with the non-nomination of defensive boss Finn Lemke, who was partly responsible for the loss in the intermediate round.

“He’s undoubtedly caused trouble. Throughout the entire tournament, they were unable to put up with this unrest,”Schwarzer said. Lemke had only been nominated for the third preliminary round game.
