After the Boston Celtics have already secured Greg Monroe’s services, the Celtics are probably thinking about a trade from Marcus Smart. His contract in Boston expires this summer.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Celtics are ready to give up Smart if a team sends a Firstrounder to Boston in return.
The reason for this is that Smart will be a Restricted Free Agent in the summer and probably earn a salary of around ten million dollars per season. Although Celtics would have the opportunity to review all the offers, the question arises as to whether Smart is worthy of such a contract.
As Celtics have many young players in their squad, Boston could decide against an extension with Smart. A trade would still provide Celtics with equivalent value.
Smart is a good defender and his attitude stands out above all else, but offensively Smart’s abilities are limited. Smart could also be dispensable because of the breakthrough of Terry Rozier.
In the current season Smart scores 10 points, 3.6 rebound and 4.7 assists in 30.3 minutes per match. It hits 35.7 percent from the field and 29.9 percent from downtown.
