NFL: Matt Patricia is the new head coach of Detroit Lions

Matt Patricia will be the new head coach of Detroit Lions and successor to Jim Caldwell, who was dismissed at the beginning of January. This was announced by the NFL club on Monday.

The 43-year-old Patricia brings an enormous experience as a coach with her. He coached the last 14 seasons under head coach Bill Belichick for the New England Patriots, including the last six as defensive coordinator. Prior to that, he gained experience as a Safetys coach, linebacker coach and assistant coach.

Patricia won three SB titles with the Patriots, who lost the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and in eleven of his twelve seasons as a defensive coach placed one of the NFL’s top 10 defenders.

“When we started our search for a new coach, I wanted a leader who could take us to a new level. I’m sure we’ve found it with Matt Patricia,”said Vice President and General Manager Bob Quinn in a Lions club statement.
