Olympia 2018: Worries about Norovirus in Pyeongchang

A fall-through epidemic has caused concern in the Olympic venue of Pyeongchang. 41 people from private security personnel are suspected of being infected with the norovirus.

1200 additional security guards have already been replaced by military personnel for fear of further infections.

Norovirus causes vomiting and stomach cramps, among other symptoms, and is highly contagious. At the World Championships in Athletics last summer, athletes from several countries had been infected with the virus, some of them were unable to take part in the competitions.

President Lee Hee Beom of the Games Organising Committee apologised for the incidents “Our disease control centre and other authorities are currently discussing what countermeasures need to be taken. We will name these shortly.”
