The New York Knicks have traded Center Willy Hernangomez to the Charlotte Hornets. In return, the Hornets Center Johnny O’ Bryant and two second round picks will be sent to the Big Apple.
“We thank Willy for his contributions to the New York Knicks and wish him all the best in the future,”said General Manager Scott Perry in the press release,”This trade brings us valuable draftpicks and a better position for our team, which is better positioned for the future”.
We are delighted that we were able to bring such a good player as Willy into our team,”said General Manager Rich Cho, who showed last season that he can deliver when the opportunity arises. We believe he can add depth to our frontcourt.”
Last season, Hernangomez played an average of 8.2 points and 7.0 rebounds for the Knicks as a rookie and was voted into the All-Rookie First Team. In this season, however, the 23-year-old Spaniard fell out of rotation in part, as the Knicks on the Five mainly trusted Enes Kanter.
O’ Bryant joined the Hornets in February 2017 and has also been a frequent member of the Hornets G-League team. In total, the Big Man played 40 games for Charlotte, in which he played 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds on average. In addition to O’ Bryant, the Knicks will also receive the Hornets’ second round picks for 2020 and 2021.
