Olympia 2018: Ski Jumping: Violinist takes precedence over Leyhe

Karl Geiger is the fourth German ski jumper to enter the Olympic competition from the normal hill alongside the seeded Richard Freitag, Andreas Wellinger and Markus Eisenbichler. One day before the qualification on Thursday (21.30 OZ/13.30 CET) national coach Werner Schuster gave the Oberstdorfer preference over Stefan Leyhe.

The decision will be made on Saturday,”Karl has prevailed in a close race,”said Schuster after the first day of training.

Wellinger, who won two of the six rounds and also showed the longest jump of the day with 110.5 m, was particularly strong. Friday, on the other hand, was not yet in the form of a medal; his best result in the six rounds was a sixth place.

“Andi Wellinger in particular has been touching this well. Richard Freitag still has some adjustment problems. But he will solve them,”said Schuster.
