The Norovirus continues to cause excitement in the run-up to the Winter Olympics. According to the Games Organising Committee, the number of patients had risen to 86 two days before the Games started. An athlete is said to have not yet been infected.
“On the 6th. We had 32 cases in February of this year, but today we have another 54 cases, a total of 86,”said Kim Hyun Jun, director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Norovirus causes vomiting and stomach cramps, among other symptoms, and is highly contagious.
The organizers in Pyeongchang are doing everything they can to prevent it from spreading to the athletes. At the World Championships in Athletics in London last summer, athletes from several countries had been infected with the virus, and some of them were unable to compete in the end.
“There is no confirmed case among athletes, and that’s the most important thing,”said Kim Hyun Jun.”We’re doing our best to ensure that the disease doesn’t spread to athletes.”
American biathlete Lowell Bailey expressed his concern:”As endurance athletes, we are constantly trying to turn our paranoia off and take a more relaxed approach to the situation. The key is to do what you can so you don’t get sick. Wash your hands, get enough sleep and do nothing stupid.”
