After only a few months the Cleveland Cavaliers have already broken up with Isaiah Thomas again. The Point Guard was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers according to consistent reports.
Thomas goes to Los Angeles together with Channing Frye and the 2018 first-round pick of the Cavaliers. For him, the Cavaliers Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance, who at the same time make Cleveland younger and more athletic, will be awarded.
Thomas came to Cleveland from Boston in the summer trade of Kyrie Irving. After his hip injury he didn’t give up until the beginning of January, but in 15 games for the Cavs he never found his rhythm. 14.7 points and 4.5 assists Thomas played on average, with odds of 36.1 percent from the field and 25.3 percent from the three-line.
He was also said to have been unpopular with the team and fought with Kevin Love, among others. Nevertheless, on Wednesday he had emphasized that he would like to stay in Cleveland for the long term.
Thomas’s contract expires this summer, just like Frye’s. The Lakers now have enough cap space to accept two maximum contracts.
