Olympia: DOSB open for recording of eSports

For the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), the inclusion of eSports as an official sport is definitely a topic of discussion.”We are open to the phenomenon,” said DOSB Vice President Walter Schneeloch in the Rheinische Post (Friday edition):”However, there must also be practicable solutions for the club structure, which has been missing so far.

Only on Wednesday, the next step towards recognition was taken by naming eSports in the preliminary draft coalition agreement of CDU, CSU and SPD. In August 2017, German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the world’s largest video game fair Gamescom in Cologne.

Following the founding of the umbrella association eSport-Bund Deutschland (ESBD) in November 2017, the DOSB recently announced the establishment of a working group for eSports.

The organisers of the Asian Games have already included eSports in their programme as an official sport for the 2022 edition in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
