NFL: New offensive coordinator: Vikings commit DeFilippo

The Minnesota Vikings have found their new offensive coordinator: The Vikes, who had previously lost their coordinator Pat Shurmur, sign Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo.

This is reported by several media. The Vikings had one of the top openers in the season just ended, despite quarterback injury worries. Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur played a major role in Case Keenum’s unexpectedly strong season – earning him the New York Giants’ head coach job.

A few days after the Super Bowl, Minnesota has apparently closed this gap: John DeFilippo, who caused a stir with his work with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles, is to take over Minnesota’s offense. DeFilippo’s contract with the Eagles would have expired, but so far he has only had one season as NFL campaign coordinator on the resume: 2015 at Cleveland Browns.

Apart from that, his area of expertise has always been working with quarterbacks, which makes Minnesota especially interesting. At the Vikings the contracts of Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford expire, it seems to be largely open which of the three quarterbacks the Vikes prioritize in the end – or whether they go a completely different way now: DeFilippo could try to bring along via Trade Foles from Philadelphia.
