Olympia 2018: After CAS judgement: Rodtschenkow’s lawyer demands Bach’s resignation

Grigory Rodchenkov’s lawyer Jim Walden has welcomed the CAS ruling to exclude 47 Russian athletes and coaches from the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. At the same time, Walden called for the resignation of IOC President Thomas Bach.

“I believe today’s decision is primarily a reaction to the outcry of clean athletes against Olympic corruption and complicity,”said Walden,”I hope IOC President Thomas Bach will listen. For the sake of the Olympic ideal, he must resign.”

Whistleblower Rodchenkow, former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, had unveiled the Russian doping scandal at the 2014 Winter Games.

The ensuing investigations led to the IOC not inviting many Russian athletes to the Olympics. The CAS followed the decision. Rodchenkov had called for an even tougher crackdown on Russia.
