Olympia 2018: Steinmeier becomes “Team D”member

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is now officially a member of the German Olympic team. Biathlete Maren Hammerschmidt and snowboarder Konstantin Schad presented Steinmeier with the team’s official team clothing during a visit to the German House of Pyeongchang on Saturday.

DOSB President Alfons Hörmann also presented the German head of state with a “Team D”medal.

“Thanks to the athletes who have been tormenting each other for weeks and months in order to be fit here and now. We would also like to thank them as Team D for conveying a good image of our country in Korea and around the world,”said Steinmeier.

After visiting the opening ceremony on Friday, the Federal President paid a visit to the ice hockey team, the figure skaters and sledge runners’ training sessions on Sunday,”The most exciting thing was when the women tobogganists offered me the opportunity to ride down in a double sled. I referred to urgent next appointments,”said Steinmeier.

On Sunday, a visit to the medal decisions of the biathletes (Sprint) and the ski jumpers (Normalschanze) was also planned – there, Steinmeier hoped to experience the first German medal personally.
