Vice World Champion Andreas Wellinger won the first single gold medal of a German ski jumper since Jens Weißflog in 1994 at the Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

The Ruhpoldinger improved from fifth place to first place in the second round with the set ski jump record of 113.5 metres and triumphed in front of the two Norwegians Johann Andre Forfang and Robert Johansson.

For the German Olympic team it was the second gold medal in South Korea, after biathlete Laura Dahlmeier had already won in the sprint.
