Olympic Games 2018: Wellinger wins gold, ÖSV eagle crashes

The Austrian ski jumpers went empty-handed at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang on Saturday in the normal hill competition, which was influenced by strongly changing wind conditions. World champion Stefan Kraft finished the first day of the competition in 13th place in freezing cold weather.

Gold went to the German Andreas Wellinger. The other medals were won by the Norwegians Johann Andre Forfang and Robert Johansson. Defending champion Kamil Stoch finished fourth ahead of his Polish compatriot Stefan Hula, who led after the first round.

Strength slipped from sixth place in the final from the top ten. His team-mates Michael Hayböck (17th), Gregor Schlierenzauer (22nd) and Manuel Fettner (23rd) played only minor roles in both passages.
