Olympia 2018: Ammann:”I almost frozen on the beam”

Ski jumper Simon Ammann was angry, but he also reacted with humour to the cold techno chaos of jumping in Pyeongchang.

“If I hadn’t gotten mad up there, I would probably have frozen on the beam. I had expected my legs to stop moving when I jumped off,”wrote the four-time Olympic champion after the repeatedly interrupted competition on Facebook.

Ammann had waited five times in vain for a green light in the freezing cold, but had to wait for a total of almost ten minutes at minus 11 degrees Celsius. Even FIS race director Walter Hofer put a warm blanket around the Swiss driver’s body during the breaks.

In the meantime, Ammann felt compassion for him on the Internet:”Simon Ammann is picking up gold in the vom-Balken-Wieder-Herunterkletten”, was one of the words Twitter used, or “Can someone put ammann in the hot tub?” and “Give it to the man a hot-water bottle”.
