Olympia 2018: Biathlon: Julian Eberhard misses medal conceivably close

Biathlete Julian Eberhard has just missed the first Austrian medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. On Sunday, the Salzburg rider finished fourth in the sprint over 10 kilometres with a penalty lap. The winner of the Olympic dress rehearsal last year, who had suffered a broken pole on the way, was only 0.7 seconds short on bronze.

Gold went to Arnd Peiffer, the clear German won the gold medal ahead of Czech surprise Michal Krcmar (+ 4.4 sec. /0 penalty rounds) and South Tyrolean Dominik Windisch (7.7/1). The top favourites Martin Fourcade (FRA/3 penalty rounds) and Johannes Thingnes Bö (NOR/4) fought their way out of the medal race with too many shooting mistakes.

While Eberhard created an excellent starting position for the pursuit on Monday, Sochi silver medallist Dominik Landertinger (1) and Simon Eder (2) are already one minute behind the top 20. Tobias Eberhard (5) missed the qualification of the best 60 for the hunting race.
