Olympia 2018: Cyber attack: IOC remains silent about perpetrators

After the cyber attack on the networks of the Winter Olympics during the opening ceremony, the Olympic organisers have imposed a muzzle on themselves:”We know the causes, but we will not reveal them,”said Sung Baik You from the Pocog Organising Committee.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams explained that the investigation is “ongoing and therefore nothing can be said”. Unknown hacked servers of the organizing committee Pocog on Friday evening during the opening ceremony. The cyber attack caused malfunctions in an Internet TV system in the main media center.

For security reasons, the organizers then shut down several data systems. This also led to a breakdown of the company’s own website. In the meantime, customers were unable to print out their tickets for Olympic Games competitions. On Saturday morning all systems were restarted.

Even before the Games, there had been cyber attacks. Experts pointed out that major events like the Olympic Games are among the most popular targets for hackers.
