Olympia 2018: Men’s downhill race announced because of the wind

Strong wind caused a cancellation of the men’s Olympic downhill run in Pyeongchang, which is planned for Sunday (3:00 CET). It was initially unclear when the race could be made up for.

The downhill training for the combination scheduled for Monday is also cancelled. This was announced by the racing jury in the morning (OZ). She said she would prepare a new competition schedule as soon as possible.

Because the wind is supposed to stop, there is an internal discussion that the departure in Jeongseon will be held only on Wednesday between the two runs of the women’s slalom in Yongpyong (10.15/13.45 o’ clock OZ or 2.15/5.45 CET). The idea of driving the race on Monday was apparently rejected because of the bad weather forecast.

The women’s giant slalom planned for Monday in Yongpyong (times like slalom) with gold candidate Viktoria Rebensburg has been retained so far. The departure of the men could also take place on Thursday, the Super-G would then be postponed to the rest day on Friday.

Kitzbühel winner Thomas Dreßen is one of the contenders for the medal in the supreme discipline. The top favourites on downhill gold are world champion Beat Feuz (Switzerland) and the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud. In addition to Dreßen (Mittenwald),”Team D” is represented by Josef Ferstl (Hammer) and Andreas Sander (Ennepetal).
