After the Super Bowl is before the new season – and the New England Patriots are facing some critical decisions here. Among other things, Dion Lewis seems to be heading in the direction of farewell, while Julian Edelman is expected to be fit in time.
That’s what the Boston Herald says. Edelman, who had torn his cruciate ligament in the past preseason and then missed the entire season, is to become a centre of the Patriots’ Open again in the coming season. According to the newspaper, the receiver, which is still under contract up to and including 2019, will be fully restored until the start of the training camp.
A Patriots-Offense focus this year, on the other hand, may well already be under contract with another team: The Boston Herald continues to announce that Dion Lewis – whose contract expires – will presumably test the market.
The signs are to be said goodbye to the Running Back, therefore, only an offer over three years and around 18 million dollars with guarantees of about ten million dollars should be enough to persuade Lewis to rethink his plans.
The 27-year-old had established himself as a starting back in the second half of the season and then regularly recorded 15 or more runs per game. Its versatility is particularly evident in the Pats-Open, but the financial focus of the Pats should initially be on the expiring contract of Left Tackle Nate Solder.
In addition, the contracts of Rex Burkhead, Danny Amendola, Matthew Slater, LaAdrian Waddle and Cameron Fleming, among others, expire. Tight End Rob Gronkowski also caused a stir when, immediately after his defeat in the Super Bowl, he confirmed that he was considering a premature end to his career.
