Olympia 2018: NADA: 657 doping controls in the German Olympic Team

The National Anti Doping Agency has extensively tested the German athletes before the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Since April 2017,657 inspections (1049 samples) have been carried out on the 156 originally nominated athletes. There was not a single positive case.

“It is important that we have sent our athletes to Pyeongchang from a position of strength. This applies to both the quality and quantity of the controls,”said Andrea Gotzmann, CEO of NADA Germany, in Pyeongchang. 53 athletes from the high-risk sports such as biathlon, cross-country skiing and speed skating were inspected up to ten times.

This is a very important area considering how many athletes have been transferred to long-term storage for the determination of re-tests at the Olympic Games in Beijing and London,”Gotzmann said.

The NADA continues to be critical of the IOC’s decision to allow 169 Russian athletes to start in Pyeongchang under a neutral flag following the doping scandal at the Winter Games in Sochi. This step is “the wrong answer to a proven fraud system over many years.”
