Olympia 2018: FIS rejects criticism after windlottery:”There was no protest”

One day after the final of the slopestyle competition for female snowboarders at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, the International Ski Federation FIS rejected all criticism of the event and said,”This was a clear decision for the event. There has been no official protest,”said FIS spokeswoman Jenny Wiedeke.

After the race, numerous runners also criticized the fact that the competition was started and pulled through despite dangerous gusts of wind. Munich-based Silvia Mittermüller had already suffered a tear in her meniscus during the training run, while the fourth-placed Norwegian Silje Norendal reported feelings of anxiety.

“It was difficult conditions, the athletes discussed with the FIS directors,”Wiedeke admitted, denying that injuries had occurred at the same time,”I have not yet seen a report of an injury,”she said. Such conditions are the order of the day in winter sports, Wiedeke added, stressing:”No athlete is forced to take part in the competition.
