NFL: Media: Jets dismiss Muhammad Wilkerson

After the New York jets had already handed in Sheldon Richardson last season, the second D-Line superstar could soon be under contract elsewhere: reports indicate that the jets are planning to dismiss Muhammad Wilkerson.

By the end of last season, the New York Daily News had already reported that Wilkerson was “as good as gone”. The defensive tackle is supposed to become a serious problem internally and instead of a leader, on which the team had relied with the extension of the contract, rather a troublemaker. He is said to have violated team rules several times while demonstrating a desolate attitude to work.

These reports are now intensifying. According to SNY, Wilkerson’s dismissal is definitely imminent, the only question is whether he will be reported as Pre-June 1 Cut or Post-June 1 Cut. The former would immediately save the jets eleven million in cap space, the latter 17 million dollars.

Wilkerson had only signed a new five-year contract in the summer of 2016, after the jets had given him the franchise day in the spring. It will now run for another three years and would bring a cap hit of 20 million dollars in 2018.

The report also states that Running Back Matt Forte and Cornerback Buster Skrine are also on the Jets list. New York could reach Cap Space with some prominent layoffs of around 100 million dollars – a good starting position to enter the race for Kirk Cousins.
