Olympia 2018: Biathlon single: Kühn replaces bronze winner Doll

Bronze medallist Benedikt Doll gets a break in the biathletes’ individual Olympic race over 20 km. As the German Ski Association announced on Wednesday, Johannes Kühn will replace the pursuit third on Thursday. Kühn is thus making his first appearance at the Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

In addition to the 26-year-old, who had only fulfilled the required standard in the last World Cup race before the Olympics, national coach Mark Kirchner nominated Olympic gold medallist Arnd Peiffer (Clausthal-Zellerfeld), mass start world champion Simon Schempp (Uhingen) and Erik Lesser (Frankenhain), who had won silver in Sochi in 2014. Doll is probably spared, as he patches at the shooting range from time to time and a single miss is sanctioned with a penalty minute.

“I’m surprised. But of course I am happy and try to get along. The track suits me,”said Kühn, who had learned of his commitment on Tuesday evening:”If I can call up my performance, then there should be a proper place.”
