Olympia 2018: Frenzel again Olympic champion in Nordic combination

Combiner Eric Frenzel (Oberwiesenthal) has won gold in the Olympic individual competition as four years ago. The German flag bearer won in Pyeongchang after the decisive cross-country race over 10 km ahead of Akito Watabe (Japan) and Lukas Klapfer (Austria).

Frenzel, who jumped to 106.5 m and started as fifth with 36 seconds to the top, made a decisive difference on the last climb. Prior to Sochi winner Frenzel, Georg Thoma (1960), Franz Keller (1968), Ulrich Wehling (1972,1976,1980) and Georg Hettich (2006) had become Olympic champions in the combination.

Record world champion Johannes Rydzek (Oberstdorf) finished fifth after a chase, Fabian Rießle (Breitnau) as seventh and Vinzenz Geiger (Oberstdorf) as ninth placed in the top 10.
