Olympia 2018: Skeleton: Lölling and Hermann convince in the final training session

The German skeleton women have slowly found their rhythm in the final training at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

After difficult units on the previous days, World Champion Jacqueline Lölling (Winterberg) set the best time of the day in 52.32 seconds in the first run on Wednesday, runner-up Tina Hermann (Königsee / 52.62) was fastest in the slightly slower second run.

“This was the best day today, even though there were still some minor mistakes,”said Lölling:”Now it’s about saving the competition four times.” The 23-year-old is world champion and overall winner of the World Cup, she is going into her first Olympic race as a favourite.

I was very excited today, and I’m happy when things finally start on Friday and we see what it really looks like,”she said.

Hermann (25) also found “slowly the constancy” on the difficult course on the last training day, but she still has great respect for the unusual Olympic format with four runs:”That’s a lot of stuff. You have to stay concentrated and the track has several trick points. Beside turn nine, turn two is also hard to hit.”

Anna Fernstädt (Berchtesgaden) is the third German woman to be at the start, she also found herself on Wednesday with places five and six in the track. Favourites include the British Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold and her compatriot Laura Deas as well as Janine Flock from Austria and Elisabeth Vathje from Canada.
