Olympia 2018: Catch up!

Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot have fulfilled their dream of winning the gold medal in the Olympic pair race.

The vice world champions from Oberstdorf won in Pyeongchang after a very strong performance in the freestyle competition ahead of the world champions Sui Wenjing/Han Cong from China and Meagan Duhamel/Eric Radford (Canada).

The German champions had only finished fourth in the short program and had little hope of making it to the front, but convinced with 159.31 points on the whole line. Annika Hocke and Ruben Blommaert (Berlin) finished 16th in the free skating final. and last place.

The Ukrainian-born Savchenko, together with her then partner Robin Szolkowy, won Olympic bronze in 2010 and 2014 and hoped to win gold in South Korea – she managed it. In South Korea, Szolkowy supervised the European champions Yevgeniya Tarazova and Vladimir Morozov (Olympic athletes from Russia), who finished fourth.
