Olympia 2018: Olympic champion Shiffrin foregoes Super-G

Giant slalom Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) leaves another medal opportunity unused at the Pyeongchang Winter Games.

As Shiffrin’s mother and coach Eileen revealed on Thursday after her daughter’s second Olympic gold medal, the 22-year-old will not compete in the Super-G in South Korea.

“She’d train or race for six days in a row,”said Eileen Shiffrin,”she needs a day off.”

Ski”prodigy” Shiffrin has won her second Olympic gold medal in the “Giant” after winning the Slalom 2014 in Sochi. On Friday (10.00/13.15 o’ clock OZ, 2.00/5.15 o’ clock CET) she goes as supposedly unbeatable gold favorite into the slalom of Yongpyong.

Three gold medals – no alpine skier from the USA has managed this yet. Shiffrin has further opportunities for precious metal in the departure on 21. February and in the alpine combination on 23. February.
