Olympia 2018: Snowboard-Cross: Shairer with cervical vertebra fracture

The Austrian Markus Schairer was badly injured in the Snwowboard-Cross at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The World Champion of 2009 suffered a rupture of the fifth cervical vertebra in a crash on the final day.

Schairer had reached the finish in his quarter-finals before he had to be admitted to hospital. However, the 30-year-old is said not to have suffered long-term damage.

As four years ago, Frenchman Pierre Vaultier won the Olympic Games in Sochi. Martin Nörl (Adlkofen) finished eighth as the best German.
